The Hayloft, as the name may suggest, was the old hayloft of the converted barn, in which it sits. The Hayloft is surrounded by fields and the elevated position offers fantastic views of the countryside. We have a wildlife area, which attracts a wide range of animals (a list and spotters guide is provided, in the accommodation) and we can boast truly dark skies, which is ideal for any budding astronomers. The Hayloft is perfect for taking a step back and reconnecting with nature. A chance to see the seasons changing around you and an opportunity to put down your phone and indulge yourself in a truly natural environment.

The accommodation offers a lounge, kitchen and dining area, along with large double and twin bedrooms, both with en-suite facilities. Towels and hypoallergenic bedding is provided, with the comfort of a Tempur double mattress.

The Shippon (cattle shed), was originally used for housing cows, with the upper storey being used as the hayloft. In the 1950s, this end was converted into storage for agricultural machinery, keeping the hayloft above it. The doorway into the twin bedroom, was the original hayloft access, where the straw could be dropped down.

We have incorporated the original features of the hayloft, such as the stone walls and brick archway, alongside the modern comforts, giving you a relaxing rustic stay.

Environmental Commitment

Here, at the Devon Shippon, we fully appreciate the environment we live in, hence choosing to use sustainably sourced timber, for the construction of the Hayloft. External movement-sensitive lights are used to limit electricity use and our appliances are all low rated.

Our wildlife field offers a home to a wide range of flora and fauna and also our tree-planting programme. We also actively support the Devon Wildlife Trust. Many features in the Hayloft are made from wood, sourced from our site.

Safety First

Not only should your stay be comfortable, but also safe. The Hayloft comes equipped with a fire extinguisher, fire blanket, up to date smoke alarms and fire exits, as well as window restrictors, to keep children safe. (There are non-gated open steps up to the balcony entrance, which may pose a risk to younger children).
